

Around the time of the commencement of the civil war, Dog-Woman is arguing with her neighbors but is interrupted by a character named Tradescant who wishes to hire Jordan as a gardening assistant at Wimbledon. The mother-son relationship between Dog-Woman and Jordan begins when she finds him as a bab y in a river bank and decides to raise him as her own.

There are many exaggerated elements of the novel which are openly interpreted as straight up facts or comic exaggeration as well as the inclusion of more supernatural elements such as teleportation. The story itself fluctuates over many time periods such as the time of Charles 1 st and Oliver Cromwell. Sexing the Cherry is a novel by Jeanette Winterson which follows the relationship between the two main protagonists of Jordan and Dog-Woman.
